BLUEBIRD GAP FARM

For the past five years, I have volunteered at Bluebird Gap Farm in Hampton, Virginia almost every Sunday. I feed, care for, and help manage the animals, along with participating in service projects that the farm supports. For each animal I assist in measuring out the right amount of food according to their dietary needs. We cut up fresh produce for many of the animals, and ensure that any supplements or medications are given to them. Through my volunteer work at the farm I have also gained experience in talking to guests and answering their questions. Before the pandemic I would routinely interact with guests while bringing around certain animals as an enrichment activity. As a volunteer I also assisted in the development of new enclosures, and even played a role in getting my robotics team together to help construct a new fence for the paddock. Bluebird Gap Farm is a great way to stay involved in the community, especially during the pandemic. It provides a safe, free outlet for anyone to come and visit the animals and boost their spirits.
